Come join the DETV & Four Youth crew for a 12 and 8 week in-depth media production training. Classes are held on-site at our DETV studios and Four Youth Studios.

By taking courses related to branding, marketing, and imaging, you’ll merge theory with practice for a comprehensive education that can help you launch or propel a career in media. MODULE 1

Storytelling

Life experiences inspire stories, meaning we all have stories to tell. A well-told narrative can motivate, captivate, and engage an audience. Creating a connection with your audience will have them wanting more. This storytelling class will cover basic steps to elevate your narration skills to the next level..

  • Understanding the protagonist and

  • The writing process
  • How to use your story

Assignment: Student will tell their story. Create a personal narrative using the Hero’s Journey and identify their nemesis.

MODULE 2

Time Management

These days life pulls us in many directions. Work, family, hobbies, and daily routines are all vying for our time. Time is the one thing you can not get back; if it’s associated with your expenses, you may lose them both. Everything is in the planning of your time.

Assignment: Students will time manage a segment of their daily life
MODULE 3

Terminology

Every skill comes with its language and a specific jargon spoken and understood by those in the industry. Like the language spoken in a foreign land, learning the vocabulary is essential to navigating the broadcast industry.

MODULE 4

Camera (Still Photography)

Still photos are often used throughout every aspect of production.

MODULE 5

Video Camera Basics

Video camera transforms your creative ideas into a visual story with movements that shape your viewer’s perspective.

Assignment: Students will have the option of shooting a video interview with a classmate or television commercial.

MODULE 6

Audio Engineering

Sound is equally as important as visuals when creating a story, and this process starts with capturing the best audio signals with the proper microphone for your project.

Assignment: Students will use previously shot photos or video recordings and add sound to create a renewed perspective.

MODULE 7

Lighting

Essential to every production. Lighting determines the quality of the scene while creating the mood within your shot.

Assignment: In small groups, students will set up lighting for various DETV shows.

MODULE 8

Editing

Editing is where the magic happens, transforming all the production parts into one cohesive story.

MODULE 9

Pre-Production Basics

There is only production with a pre-production process. Think of it as the first layer of your foundation. If carefully planned, every remaining milestone should be effortless.

Assignment: Students will explore ideas for the final project and start the pre-production process.
MODULE 10

Set Design/Wardrobe

Set Design and Wardrobe set the tone for your audience, and each is responsible for creating your production’s mood, style, and theme.

Assignment: Students will analyze various movie or show set designs’ moods, styles, and themes.
MODULE 11

Production

The moment we have all waited for is the day production starts. The production will be a testament to how well you planned; it is a learning process. As the producer, you are the facilitator in making all the pieces come together.

MODULE 12

Post-Production

Your production has wrapped, and now the magic begins. The post-production process takes your puzzle and shapes it into a captivating story.

Pitch/Marketing
& Promotion

Your production is complete! Pitching, marketing, and promoting have been the industry standards for presenting your production in front of an audience.

Assignment: Students will create a promo for Social Media

MODULE 14

Digital Content Creator

In the age of digital media, content creation is familiar in every household. As the need for content continues to grow and expand across all media platforms, so are the need for creative creators.

  • What is a Content Creator?
  • How to become a Content Creator
  • Types of Digital content
  • Various types of digital content platforms
  • Tools needed for content creation
  • Habits of a successful Content Creator
Assignment: Everything is content! Students will use various mediums to create a singular story for three social media platforms.
MODULE 15

Final Project Presentation

Presentation is everything! There is no way around it in this industry; everyone must present if you plan to take your work of art to the next level. In delivering your final project, your peers will share their critiques. You want to attend this class; this will determine your final grade.
Class policies give your classmates and instructors your attention when speaking. Please be respectful and intelligent when using cell phones and electronic devices (silence is golden). It is your responsibility to pay attention in class.
